Well, there is a lot to unpack here. First off: I am more than confident that the boss you spoke of is not a physician, nor a scientist of any kind. The fact that he/she is able to be productive and focused with 6 hours of sleep daily is not irrefutable proof of his/her understanding of human tolerances for a life of perfected velocity.

Ancestry, diet, BMI, whether or not you have a sleeping disorder, or disruption of circadian rhythm, and your body's ability to process light in a positive way to form proper sleeping patterns to create proper, efficient sleeping habits for you, is something He/She is likely to have no knowledge of.

One of the most profound discoveries of my life is that who we are is a collection of values created in moments of perceived failure. In a moment of perceived failure, we believe if we change the way of being, we will reclaim power and victory over that failure. NEVER change who you are based on how you THINK others see you. Being who you are is the most attractive and most fulfilling way you can ever be. Letting that voice in your head (who is NOT your friend, BTW) tell you the way things should be does not bring you happiness. Feeling life in the very moment you're in is the path to true fulfillment.

One Thursday night in Kauai, I talked to your co-worker Brian. He told me about his former life. It was based on his academic success, the beautiful woman he had as a partner, and the prestigious career that made his family proud and his friends jealous. A beautiful life, anyone could or would wish for. A life seemingly perfect fell apart with the loss of the lynch pin of a fulfilling partner. One day, she just chose to live life on her terms without him. The house of card fell, and he learned his life wasn't lived on his terms, and that success wasn't based on other people's admiration of him but how he felt about who he is, was, or could be. So stepping away from a job with a prestigious title and becoming a table busser on a cruise ship filled with self-important people who dont really know how lucky they are gave him the breathing room to find himself and the values he wanted to find to have a life worth living and that could never be taken away from him by anyone. That is the kind of success he was looking for!!! That conversation with him was one of the best 15 minutes of that cruise, that and snorkeling in Maui.

I did a little Googling on the woman you wrote of, Haley Hoffman Smith. She may be a strong source of inspiration, but remember, people with more that 10,00 followers are in fact a marketing company, that is not an indictment of her character, she may be someone truly committed and fulfilled by inspiring and helping others. I have been so lucky to not only meet my heroes but have the honor of working for them. It is an opportunity to have a truly authentic interaction with that person and see not the person you think/wish they were, but see who they are when only the hired help are watching. Sometimes it really sucks to see who they are, and other times it far exceeds expectations of the generous, kind, talented people they are. I share that because I want you to know that their strength comes from how you listen to them, not based on who they actually are. And who you are is based on how you listen to yourself and how you value the things that actually bring you happiness, and not outside accolades.

Cheers to the future you !!! Find the goal, and strip away the things that don't bring you closer to it.

To borrow from the wisdom of the Indego Girls:

There's more than one answer to these questions

Pointing me in a crooked line

And the less I seek my source for some definitive

Closer I am to fine.

You are a beautiful person. Stop trying to find a way to prove it, and just have fun getting use to it!
